NEW PARENT F.A.Q.'s
Q: What’s this summer's ministry theme?
A: This summer’s theme is Lead the Way. We will help every camper discover that God leads them to be leaders in His Kingdom.
Q: What will my camper learn?
A: You can find a general outline for each night’s teachings below. When you arrive to camp, we will provide you with a way to pray with and for us from home.
Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you?"
1) To lead is to be led
God calls us all to be leaders and leads each one of us to where He wants us to lead.
"Be strong and courageous"
2) The heart of a leader
What does the heart of a leader look like?
3) The actions of a leader
What does a leader do? What does it look like to lead like Jesus?
"Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you"
4) Holy Spirit helps us lead
Our strength as leaders comes from God, He is always with us, even when leadership feels lonely.
"Wherever you go."
5) Step into leadership/Commissioning
How is God calling you to be a leader at home, your school, your church?
Q: Why does Shepherd’s Fold do baptisms?
A: A week at Shepherd’s Fold is a powerful time that God uses to change lives. Baptisms are an outward expression of that inward change. It is a public statement of a camper’s commitment to be known and to live fully committed as a follower of Christ.
Q: What if my child wants to be baptized, and can I be there?
A: All campers will be asked by their counselor no later than Thursday if they want to be baptized. If a camper would like to be baptized, a Senior Leadership Team member will call the parent to discuss the camper’s request. Parents have the final say if their child is baptized.
Baptisms will take place on Saturday following the closing ceremony. And of course, parents are invited to attend the closing ceremony, baptisms, and awards!
Q: How do I know my camper will be safe?
A: Your children are the most precious possession not just to you but to God. We will do everything we can to ensure your child’s safety, health, and well-being. Here are a few things we do to ensure your child is well cared for:
- Clear background checks for all staff
- Intensive discipleship training and training in all camp policies and emergency and security procedures as well as behavior management and child development for all staff
- Certification for all staff in first-aid and CPR
- Certification in other expertise areas including lifeguarding and ropes course
- Follow all American Camp Association standards
Q: What about severe weather?
A: Our leadership staff keeps watch for any severe weather (high winds, hail, lightning, tornadoes.) In the event of severe weather, campers will be moved to shelter until it has cleared. All staff are trained in severe weather procedures and will instruct campers throughout the situation.
Q: Where is Shepherd’s Fold Ranch?
A: We are located in Avant, Oklahoma about 30 minutes north of Tulsa. CLICK FOR MAP
Q: When can we show up for camp?
A: You can arrive to camp anytime between 3:00 - 5:00 pm. It is really important that you respect these drop off times. Creating life-changing experiences takes time and preparation. Please give us the time we need to ensure that your camper has the most amazing experience possible. We know that both you and your camper are going to be ready and beyond excited for camp to start.
Trust us - We are just as excited for camp to start as you are!
Q: What do we do when we arrive to camp?
A: Drive to the top of the hill and follow instructions for where to park. Staff will be stationed throughout camp to assist you throughout the check-in/drop-off process. Please ask any SFR staff for help. We are here to serve!
Q: When do I pick up my camper and what do I do?
A: Camp ends on Saturday. Parents are invited to join us for our closing ceremony, camper awards, and baptism. Closing ceremonies begin at 10am. After our closing ceremony, parents are invited to visit their camper’s family group and be present for the awards ceremony. Every camper must be signed by their parent/guardian (or a previously authorized adult) before leaving camp. After the awards ceremony and signing out, families are able to visit the camp store or stay for the baptisms which will begin around 11:15am.
Q: Can I come and visit my camper?
A: Open meetings are on Wednesday evenings. It is an amazing opportunity for parents to experience camp and join us for worship and an evening teaching. Parents can begin arriving at 6:30 pm. Night encounter (the night meeting) begins at 7. Parents can choose to stay for part or the entire evening of events.
