We Come Expecting God to Meet Us

There is something special about stepping away from the ordinary.

At Shepherd’s Fold Ranch, campers spend their days outside, away from many of the distractions that fill everyday life. They participate in activities, build friendships, worship together, listen to Scripture, and have opportunities to slow down and reflect.

But our expectation is about more than creating a memorable environment.

We expect God to meet people here.

That expectation shapes the way we approach camp ministry. We don’t want to simply tell campers about God. We want to create opportunities for them to know Him personally and discover that He is present and active in their lives.

Our hope is that campers arrive expecting to have fun and leave knowing they encountered something deeper: the love and presence of Jesus.

Making Room for the Holy Spirit

At Shepherd’s Fold Ranch, we believe the Holy Spirit plays an important role in helping us know God.

Our worship gatherings are intentionally designed to create room for campers to respond to Him. Scripture, prayer, worship, and teaching provide structure, but we don’t believe a genuine encounter with God can be manufactured through a particular program or technique.

Instead, our leaders seek to facilitate opportunities for campers to turn their attention toward Jesus and respond to what He is doing in their hearts.

That response may look different from person to person.

One camper may worship through singing. Another may pray quietly. Someone else may spend time journaling, reflecting on Scripture, or simply sitting in stillness. We want to provide freedom without creating pressure for campers to respond in a particular way.

Our expectation is not that everyone will have the same experience. Our expectation is that God is faithful to meet people where they are.

Expectation Leads to Invitation

When we expect God to move, we also have the opportunity to invite campers into something more.

Our teachings don’t simply communicate information. They are designed to lead toward a response. Campers are invited to consider what they believe, what God may be showing them, and what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life.

That invitation might involve spending time in prayer, forgiving someone, trusting God with a difficult situation, choosing to serve another person, or beginning a deeper relationship with Jesus.

We believe these invitations matter because camp is often a significant season of decision-making for young people. Away from familiar routines, they have space to consider questions that may otherwise get pushed aside.

We don’t know exactly what God will do during a week at Shepherd’s Fold Ranch. But we can prepare a place where young people are encouraged to seek Him.

And that is why we come expecting.

We expect God to move because He is already pursuing His children. Our role is simply to create space, point people toward Jesus, faithfully teach His Word, and trust the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do.
