Ready for Camp?
Going to Summer Camp is a BIG DEAL! It is great fun, full of new friends and experiences that just are not the same anywhere else. Every summer we have what we like to call “First Time Campers” – those who have never been to camp before. Many times this is the first time away from home period. Most campers do really well being at camp. They are able to jump right in and not even be phased. (For parents it may be another story!) However, some campers are not quite ready to be sent to camp just yet.
There are several things to take into consideration when determining whether or not your child is ready for camp. According to HokieWellness Website, “most campers have some reservations about leaving home to attend overnight camp.” BUT that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t go. Getting out of your comfort zone isn’t always a bad thing – quite often it provides opportunity to grow. If your child is hesitant about attending camp, one way to give them peace of mind is to send a sibling or close friend to camp with them. Here at Shepherd’s Fold we love to honor bunk requests, so they’ll get to stay in the same cabin if they want! (Boys with boys, girls with girls.)
