Summer Camp Structure
At Shepherd’s Fold Ranch, we desire to be place in the country where people can do business with God, and our summer camp schedule is structured around just that. By keeping our focus simple, we provide an environment for campers, staff, and visitors to encounter the fullness of God out in the country.
There are two specific times set aside each day for the overnight campers to sit down and focus on discovering new things about the Lord. Our morning encounters are setup so that campers learn the importance of a personal relationship with the Lord and how to do a daily quiet time, and then are given the opportunity each morning to practice. SFR night encounters are a time of corporate worship and bible teachings. Of course the campers are able to encounter the Lord outside of these two times – through relationships built with other campers and staff, through God’s creation, through praying over the meals, through helping out a teammate while playing a game, and many other activities all throughout the day. We encourage our counselors to seek out teachable moments in every moment. For example, explaining that Cabin Clean Up isn’t just to clean the cabin – it is also to learn to be good stewards of the things the Lord has given us (Matthew 25).
We plan the schedule so that there are both structured and unstructured times for the campers to explore different things at SFR. During the unstructured times, campers are still supervised by camp staff and get to choose from activities like swimming or going down the slide at the pool, swimming, jumping off the tower or floating dock, canoeing, kayaking, or paddle-boating at the pond, playing nine holes of Frisbee golf, hanging out with friends, visiting the Top Rail (camp store), or other various activities.
